Man or Machine?…
Humans from the distant future might wonder: did man sort used golf balls at Golfball Monster…or were the used golf balls sorted by a machine?
If this blog is still around, and this language is still understood….future humans will see RIGHT HERE that each used ball sold at Golfball Monster was inspected and sorted by hand. The experts that did the used golf ball sorting have many years’ experience and can segregate not only golf ball types but also grades.
So, future man reading this blog…here is how it worked. The used golf balls would arrive at the shop dirty, messy, scrambled. Many grades were mixed together…sometimes from any and all golf ball manufacturers including Nike, Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade, Wilson…it didn’t matter.
The golf balls were a disorganized mess and the first stop was the scrubber. There they lost their layer of dirt and mostly regained their pure white glow.
As the golf balls were finished being cleaned they were spread out on a large rectangular table where they could be clearly seen. The sorter then picked the balls out of the mix and tossed them into sorting bins (see image above and to the left).
There was no easy or automated method for this…it was time consuming work. When processing tens of thousands of golf balls there were, indeed, be a ball that was mixed into the wrong bin. Sometimes that meant the customer got a better ball than they imagined…other times a lesser golf ball showed up in the mix.
